Poetry: Mahler Symphony On a Bench In a Forest

Remember when

the chaos and lovely paused,

             how the breathless instruments

rippled with a warm glow, and

how the wet green shivered in delight and

how we took a breath

     in the new shimmering air,

still           and quiet.

  We wanted to roar and

      whoop and cry and

beat at our chests,

  wanted to fly

        and stomp our feet!

                Watching us,

lumbering clouds

with grey hair and gentle bellies,

gathered together,

              and talked.

They were kind enough

to allow thundering rain

      be the applause.
