A great way to become involved in the community outside of Springs is volunteering. The Birmingham area offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities involving many groups, areas of interest, and skill sets. A few of the opportunities you can be involved with this October are listed below. Also listed are events you can attend to support Birmingham nonprofit organizations.
Bundles of hope
october 6 9:00-11:00 am
Along with the diaper drive recently held at Springs, you could volunteer to help repackage diapers into bundles for families.
Community foodbank of central alabama
October 5 9:00-11:30 pm
October 8 1:00-3:00 pm
CFCA offers volunteer times which normally conflict with school hours, but during fall break there are two volunteer opportunities available. Volunteers will help restock shelves, unload trucks, and package goods.

soldier’s angels
October 16 11:30 am-1:30 pm
Volunteers will help veterans with any questions about their smartphone that the volunteer is able to help with. Volunteers must be sixteen or older.

Ywca: Domestic violence awareness walk
October 18 6:00 pm
Attendees will walk to support and honor domestic violence victims.

Greater bham humane society: Howls and growls
October 26 8:00 pm- October 27 12:00 am
The event features live music, games and activities, and local food and beverages. Proceeds from the event benefit the continued efforts of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
